New Feature: Post of the Week

Have you ever read a post and thought to yourself, I want everyone to read (or see) this? Well, I thought why not feature this post I like so much, and I’ll admit I did steal this idea from a few bloggers (cough). I mean we’re sharing this idea. Good things should be shared. I suppose there is a widget that could do the work for me, but I would rather take full responsibility and shine a light on something I feel is really special and deserves attention. It will reside on my sidebar for at least a week. This will give you plenty of time to read/see it.

For my kickoff Post of the Week, the featured blog is Oh God, My Wife Is German. This just happens to be one of the very first blogs I followed.

When I read this blog seven months ago, the author lived in Portland, Oregon with his German wife. It was never a dull moment, and many of them Denglish moments. They have since moved to Hannover, Germany, and so now a perspective from the inside. Recently, Oh God, My Wife Is German received the Expat Blog Honour Award for 2012. This blog always makes me smile.

Check out this post. You’ll love it! Drop by and say hello.

  1. Nice idea, and really nice post too. Thanks for pointing us in that direction.
Just one thing, since you’ll be featuring this for a week, and many of us come from readers and directly to the a post/update and to the homepage, you should keep the side bar on the posts too.
    Have a nice week.

      1. I mean that you have a sidebar on your homepage, but one you click to read a post the sidebar doesn’t show.
I’m just telling you because keeping the side bar makes it easier to navigate the blog. I didn’t have it, I had to add it and click the option to show on posts and pages too not only on the Home Page.

    1. Alice, we very well could do that! That would be fun, too. For me, it will be whatever strikes my fancy. Could be hard to choose! Thanks. Check out this blog. I think you’d really enjoy it. He’s the nicest guy, too.

    1. Cough* Cough* uh negative…only the home page. Maybe I’ll ask a few people who use this theme. I didn’t see how to make it happen on the post pages (what do you call them – the secondary pages!?) Dunno…

  2. That was very funny! Now we can sympathize with people from other countries who speak broken English. I always say, well heck, at least they speak more than one language. I speak only one!

    1. Thanks, Sandee! I’m happy you enjoyed it. He’s a really funny guy. He’s always a pleasure. I know, me too…I only speak one language. I always wished I would have learned another one. I tried, but it didn’t work out too well.

  3. I loved it! Really funny. I was going to say it’s like your own Freshly Pressed, but then I saw you had said that already in the comments!

If you figure out how to do a sidebar on posts and not just the homepage on here, let me know! I have the same theme for my main blog and that has bugged me for a while.

    1. Thanks, Vanessa! He’s always funny. I’m glad you liked it. I hope he comes over here to see all his great comments, like yours.
So far, I have not figured out how to do a sidebar in anything other than the home page. I’m thinking now I may need to do it’s own page and introduce each one every week. I suppose you could customize it in with a CSS, but I’m sure that would be disastrous for me! If you figure it out, please let me know.

  4. That’s a great idea, of highlighting different blogs. It’s funny: that was one of the first blogs I saw too when I first starting blogging. He’s got a very quirky way of saying things. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, David. We’ll see how it goes. I currently have no method.

Oh really?! I wonder if that’s how we connected…could be! I’ve always enjoyed his blog. Yes, he’s got his own quirky style which I really like.

Take it away.
