It’s time for Friday Fictioneers, a group of writers from around the world who are challenged to write a 100-word story based on photo prompt.
Many thanks to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for hosting each week and to Roger Bultot for this week’s photo.
All are welcome to participate. Join in!

Genre: General Fiction (101 words)
Karma
Jimmy crawled out of his cardboard house to watch the fumes rising from the roof in a pinched funnel.
The earlier words of a man echoed in his head:
You feed on the misery of others.
You’re the evil in the world.
You will die an early death.
The sky belched black smoke, emptying the scum of its owner at the residence and business of “Lloyd’s Central Towing.”
Firefighters spilled out of trucks, “It’s gonna blow.”
Lloyd had impounded Jimmy’s car, ending his job, trapping his life.
“At last,” said Jimmy. His mouth curled in a smile.

Oooooo I like it, and yes very karmic, I had a similar thought for this prompt… Must be that kind of day today!

Thanks. Oooo Cool! Must be. I had one other idea, but this one won. I will definitely be by to read your karmic story.

Jimmy’s quite the dark one. I wonder if burns down the house of everyone who offends him? (Maybe his car was illegally impounded of course, I shouldn’t judge!)
I’m thinking maybe this is the same Jimmy as in my story, before he was caught 🙂

Thanks, Ali. Actually, in my story it really isn’t Jimmy who does it. I had another 100 words with another man who stormed out of there and went to a coffee shop. Jimmy followed him and wanted to buy him a cup of coffee but was penniless so couldn’t. Yeah, I was over! It could have been illegal, but mistakes happen, too. Anyway, so, he didn’t start the fire…

Oh my. Brilliant how you derived a story of karma from a photograph and interpreted it into 100 words! Great Amy. But, this of course, could be a much larger story and one that sounds very intriguing. Will you?

Thank you, Brigitte. It’s always a possibility to write a longer story. We’ll see. That’s what is great about doing these too. I get lots of ideas.

Revenge is sweet and Jimmy is revelling in it. A very dark character, I think. Excellent story, Amy.

Jimmy better be careful that his deed doesn’t come back to him sevenfold. Isn’t that how karmic pay-back works? In any case, great story.

It wasn’t Jimmy who started the fire…it happened. I had a whole other back story about someone else who said these words to Lloyd. Anyhow…Lloyd put Jimmy in a cardboard house and now Lloyd’s house is going to blow up. I can’t really say how karma works. You just have to trust in it. Thanks.

The wrecker man got towed away in a body bag. I do feel we reap what we sow. Some of us in this life, and some in the next.

Well said there. I happen to believe we reap what we sow, too. It all comes back around in the end. Thanks, Russell.

Sounds like some bad karma coming back around in the world. If only it really worked that way, but nice depiction of how it ought to. Thanks, Amy!

I think it’s possible it works this way or at least in my story. Thanks, Perry!

I feel Jimmy is actually more passive in this story and things kind of happened this way. Thanks for your comments, Liz.

Whoever said that revenge is a dish best served cold. I think Jimmy prefer it blazing hot.

Dear Amy,
Lloyd couldn’t impound karma. I love the description of the sky belching smoke. A good read all the way around. Well done.

They may have a hard time finding the guy who did it. That man must have had many enemies. It sounds like he not only towed cars, but was nasty about it. What a creep. Well written, Amy. — Suzanne

I think Lloyd enjoyed being a creep and probably had many enemies who aren’t shedding any tears over this. I guess that’s sad, too. Thank you, Suzanne.

The only thing that worries me is bad korma but I don’t think Jimmy is eating any. In any case revenge is a dish served cold but in this case its been well smoked. Nice one.

I’ve never tried korma. Yes, you’re right. It’s definitely not cold. Thanks so much.
