This week’s photo challenge is to capture a monochromatic image, described as a gradient of a single color with an emphasis on texture and composition.
I’m not sure if these images fulfill the challenge, but I wanted to share these photos because I like them so much. It was a few springs ago and I haven’t seen anything quite this green since.

What is this green that you speak of?

I know. Where did it go? Will it ever come back?

Maybe soon but first, if the El Niño forecasts come to pass, we’ll get to see a whole lot of mud brown first.

I think that mud is going to look mighty good. What we really need is the white stuff, but I will take the mud any day.

I put in a vote for white stuff- at least in the Cascade Mountains, here! Eastern Washington’s irrigation depends HEAVILY on snowpack.

Absolutely!! We rely on that white stuff too in the Sierras. I hope you get it!

Amy, that second one has a special feel to it because of the light and reflection you caught. Lovely.

Look at all that green! Well done … and I like the wispy grasses in the first pic.

What’s the sunspot in the middle photo? Is that the bike mirror? Pretty clever. Was that intentional?

Exactly right, Mark. That’s the bike mirror. No, I remember taking a lot of photos pretty quickly, so I guess I just got lucky. Thanks.

The middle of the three is my favourite – definitely get a sense of texture from that!

Amy – these are seriously incredible photos. The one in the middle with the bike is just breathtaking and the one on top looks like a painting! I follow a few photography blogs because I love it myself, and these are better than what I’ve seen in a long time. You should do something more with them. And by the way, I had a canvas print done at Costco once of a family portrait, and it turned out beautifully. I wonder how these would look as canvas prints – all 3 – you could hang them like that in your house! They are just really beautiful. Great work!

Oh, my goodness! Thank you so much, Kelly. I’m so delighted you think they’re worth the trouble to enlarge and print on a canvas. Hmm…maybe! Perhaps, I will look into it. Thanks so much for suggesting it and for the kind words. You’re so sweet. xoxo
