Welcome Spring “Today”

Are you ready for spring? Are you cleaning your closets and getting organized? I just read this poem “Today” today by American poet Billy Collins and thought his lovely words would be a wonderful way to welcome spring.

Certainly, we have those days when we need to leave the chores behind and get outside. I hope you have many days like that to look forward to. Happy spring!

Today

BY BILLY COLLINS

If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze

that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house

and unlatch the door to the canary’s cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,

a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies

seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking

a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,

releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage

so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting

into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Seasons

This week’s photo challenge is Seasons.

Share an image evocative of the weather or represent the current “season of your life” in metaphor.

Recently, I took quite a few photos and I had trouble choosing one. I may post more of them later.

This photo I really like. For me, it represents the many layers of nature, as in life, as with people. Here we have the coming spring when everything is bubbling underneath the surface waiting to sprout. I took this photo near my home in a wetlands preserve.

And the pond is full and bursting with activity.

Speaking of layers, here is the bunny’s camouflaged home. Can you spot the bunny?

Linger in the Moonbeam Wilderness

Mountain1

Linger in the moonbeam wilderness
stay a while
take off your hat, your scarf and
breathe in the air

Feel it nip at your neck and
sting your eyes
dance upon your lips
and whistle in your eardrums

Its song filters through the clouds
whispered in the wind
and is carried by feathered wings
waiting in the shadows

Memories drift on frayed edges
slipping through fingertips
remembering what you can’t forget
like tracked footfalls in the fallen snow

Memories old, memories new
memories waiting for a cue
marked by the hawk passing through
who waits for no one
